With the acqusisition of industrial control software vendor innotec GmbH (Schwelm, Germany), the Siemens Industry Automation Division claims to become the "first industrial equipment provider able to offer all sectors of the manufacturing and the process industries system-wide solutions for integrating their entire production sequence and production life cycle." With about 200 employees, innotec is said to be one of the leading engineering software vendors focusing on process industries. As a result of the acquisition, innotec will become a subsidiary of Siemens AG and it will be assigned to Siemens' Industrial Automation Systems business unit. According to innotec CEO Ralf-Michael Franke, the innotec software complements Siemens' automation engineering products and services such as its Simatic PCS7 process control system and its range of process instrumentation. The move is in line with Siemens' acquisition of US-based industrial software vendor UGS in 2007. While innotec's center of gravity is more in the segment of the process industry, UGS focused on discrete manufacturing. The purchase price was not disclosed. The takeover is subject to antitrust permission.
