Dassault Brings PLM to Singapore Manufacturers

-- Business & Technology News, 23 June 2009

Dassault Systèmes, supplier of product lifecycle management (PLM) solutions, collaborated with Singapore Manufacturers’ Federation (SMa) to organize the first-ever seminar for medical device manufacturers in Singapore, as part of its plans to help the life sciences industry in Asia Pacific enhance competitiveness through technological solutions.
Entitled “Achieve Quality by Design in the Medical Device Industry”, the event held at Marina Mandarin Singapore on June 10 attracted some 50 participants from the medical device industry.
During the seminar, participants learnt how PLM solutions can bridge the gap between compliance and innovation, and how virtual design and simulation can improve product performance in the medical device industry.
“In the medical device industry, quality is a matter of life and death, and not just a mere bottom-line driver. It is everybody’s responsibility to strictly upkeep quality compliance standards. Thus, we need to constantly innovate and improve on our technological solutions so as to achieve time and cost efficiency without compromising on quality,” said Goh Seow Ping, Chairman of SMa’s Medical Technology Industry Group, in his opening address.
According to Janice Kwok, Director of Industry Groups, SMa, the federation is actively seeking ways to help its members improve on capabilities and ride through the economic downturn. “We are pleased to partner with Dassault Systèmes to organize such informative seminars to share insights with our members on the latest technologies available in the market. It is crucial for our manufacturing members to embrace technology and innovation so as to improve their competitiveness in the long run,” she added.
“We are committed to grow with the life sciences industry and have been working with manufacturers from around the world to innovate and deliver quality products. Dassault Systèmes will do what we can to help the local industry develop and grow. Our 3D solutions are useful tools that can help manufacturers commercialize the technology developments of medical devices,” said Gilles Cruanes, Vice President (PLM Sales & Distribution) of Dassault Systèmes South Asia.
The Economic Development Board (EDB) of Singapore has projected that the life sciences industry will grow to S$5 billion (US$3.7 billion) by 2015. Dassault Systèmes says it is well-placed to support this growth as it provides PLM solutions to nine of the top 20 global medical device manufacturers
